I’m 48 years old and live in Mullsjö, a small village in the middle of Sweden. Since I joined the local fire brigade in 2003, my goal has always been to make the tasks safer, faster and more effective in order to improve the mission objective and thus the rescue of people and property. Rescue operations and training to be better at the scene of an accident have always been the focus. After a key experience in 2009, witnessing the hard work involved in high-speed accidents and experiencing high-energy collisions, I wanted to learn more and improve my knowledge of vehicle extrication and heavy rescue. In 2015 I completed my training to become a Chief Fire Officer, a new step in my career in the fire service. To develop as a technical rescue instructor, I started a training project in 2017. The aim was to teach advanced rescue methods in vehicle extrication and to train realistic technical rescue scenarios. The team consisted exclusively of interested people without much experience in firefighting and rescue. This project opened the opportunity to travel to other countries and meet rescue instructors who have the same passion for saving lives. Training as a hydraulic rescue instructor in Holland, the World Championship in France and heavy rescue training in Portugal are just some of the experiences that resulted. My passion for sharing knowledge and the results on the training ground together with experience from real rescue operations within the fire service have given me a strong foundation to become a good and sound instructor in technical rescue.
